There are so many people shooting videos. However, so many people don’t know how to actually put together a budget for their professional careers. If you’re one of those people, don’t worry – we’re here to help. First thing to remember is – the goal to making money is to make more than you spend… so make sure you know how much you’re spending.
Why is it so difficult to make money making videos?
Follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way to making money making videos in no time:
- 1. Figure out what your commercial video budget is. This is probably the most important step, because if you don’t have a commercial video budget, you’re not going to be able to make any money making videos. You need to take into account every and I mean EVERY cost, down to the roll of tape, sand bag and sandwich. If you’re in doubt, add 20%.
- 2. Once you have your commercial video budget figured out, start looking for ways to match your client needs to your budget. That means, if you’re just looking for content, anyone with a camera will do. However, if you’re shopping quality and that cool factor, you have to find some talent to help make this commercial video project. Ideally, all the client stuff is figured out before hand. Again, add some more money in there, so you don’t have to go back to the client and ask for more. Give yourself that ability to just say “yes”
- 3. If you want to make sure your commercial video is top-notch, then don’t be afraid to spend a little bit more money on the people. Professional people matter. It will allow you to go faster and ensure the safety of the project. There’s nothing worse than a lawsuit or insurance claim to suck the profits out. Making better projects will ensure that you get the quality that you’re looking for, and it will also help you attract more customers, viewers, audience members that are interested in your video. After all your video production company of choice should be able to meet your ROI goals.
- 4. Make sure you commercial video is well-produced. The key to making good faulty content is planning. Without planning, it’s not going to go well for you. We have never made a quality video without a really solid plan. Plan to spend as much on pre-production as you will spend on a shooting days. Remember, its not the camera, its the people… and the people that make a plan are the people that plan to win. Let’s win.
- 5. The last tip has to do with commercial video strategy. This is more important than the tips before it because this will be your foundation. Your commercial video strategy should answer these simple questions: who is your target market, what action do you want them to take, when will they take that action? All these are the basic building blocks of a great commercial. If you have an agency working with you, they should be able to answer all those questions. Ask… it mattes.
You certainly get what you pay for here.
